Sometimes shoots are not so much about fashion or portraits or even art, as they are about relationships. A prime example is this new shoot of Kate by Jurgen Teller for Self Service magazine. This is not the Kate Moss we are used to seeing – primped, posed and airbrushed – these are intimate shots taken by a friend who has stayed over for the weekend. A relaxed, makeup-less Kate, looking more youthful and alive than ever, captured in all her fresh-faced glory by Jurgen.
Without trust, would we be invited into her alternate world of cabaret drumming, vintage cars, and country life with her daughter?
Without trust, would Kate laugh with such wild abandon and make us feel like we are included in this intimate environment?
The relationship between model and photographer is a special one, not to be taken for granted or abused. And it’s only when that relationship is a trusting one that we begin to get shots with such raw energy and vibrant personality.
